My breastfeeding journey started 20 years ago, when I became a mom. Breastfeeding struggles, lack of adequate support and desire to meet my baby’s needs led me to learn all I could about lactation. I became a lactation consultant to help new moms but I became an advocate to ensure that my own daughter has a different experience than I did so many years ago. I’m honored to have worked in public health and for the opportunity to collaborate with other incredible women who are committed to advocating for new families.

My breastfeeding journey began 21 years ago, & when facing difficulty, the support of a friend made a huge difference. Several thousand miles & a few years later, I found myself supporting others as a LLL leader. From 2006 until 2009, I continued to lead meetings & support families with breastfeeding. During that time, I was encouraged to become an IBCLC & in 2011, I opened my private practice in Ft. Worth with 4 young children cheering me on. Through the years, our family & my practice have grown, I’ve been blessed to serve families & meet amazing IBCLCs, LLL Leaders & BF supporters across the US & TX. I’m honored to serve in a new capacity helping to promote human milk feeding, advocating for families & lactation helpers across the state.

The science of breastmilk is my passion. I have over 30 years of experience working in hospitals, outpatient clinics, pediatric offices, and even started a breastfeeding support clinic. My years of providing lactation care allowed me to serve as President of US Lactation Consultants Association, Chair of the Texas Breastfeeding Coalition, and winner of the UT Health President’s Award for Leadership.

As an only child, I was not breastfed due to an old wives tale. However, I have always known breast was best. As a young mother and in an effort to bust those ridiculous myths, I forged a better path for my own children and overcame my own breastfeeding issues. In the process, I became an ardent breastfeeding advocate. I have been helping moms successfully breastfeed for 12 years at Austin Public Health WIC program. I am also the current President of the Central Texas Breastfeeding Coalition and have served in other positions on the board in the past. I look forward to helping support new mothers reach their breastfeeding goals and I strive to educate, advocate, and empower all new and soon-to-be mothers.
